Senior Python Developer - AI Platform

Senior Python Developer Python | Cloud | APIs | Hybrid | £80,000 - £95,000 I'm working with an established software company that's continuing to grow its engineering team following a period of sustained investment. They're looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to play a key role in designing, building and improving scalable backend services while helping shape technical direction across the wider engineering team. This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, taking ownership and mentoring others in a collaborative environment. The role Working as part of a cross-functional engineering team, you'll be responsible for designing and developing backend services that are reliable, scalable and easy to maintain. Alongside hands-on development, you'll contribute to architectural decisions, improve engineering standards and support the growth of other developers through mentoring and code reviews. Responsibilities include: * Building and maintaining scalable backend services and APIs * Contributing to architecture and technical design * Improving system performance, reliability and security * Working closely with Product and Engineering teams to deliver new features * Mentoring developers and promoting engineering best practice * Helping improve development processes and code quality About you You'll ideally have experience with: * Strong commercial Python development * REST APIs and microservice architectures * SQL and NoSQL databases * Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP) * CI/CD and modern software engineering practices * Docker or container-based deployments * Experience mentoring or supporting other engineers Exposure to distributed systems, event-driven architectures or modern AI tooling would be beneficial, but isn't essential.
