This is a job that Jill, our AI Recruiter, is recruiting for on behalf of one of our customers. She will pick the best candidates from Jack's network. The next step is to speak to Jack. Job Title Founding Engineer / CTO Salary £140k + Equity Company Description AgentBay is a London-based startup building the trust layer for agentic commerce. Founded by alumni from Stripe, Plaid, and Amazon, they are developing a first-of-its-kind risk engine and payment infrastructure to protect consumers and merchants as AI agents begin to handle autonomous transactions and financial decisions. Job Description As the Founding Engineer/CTO at AgentBay, you will build the technical foundation for autonomous agentic commerce. You’ll develop a novel risk engine quantifying "alignment risk" using ML and LLMs, integrate complex payment flows, and design end-user UX. This is a hands-on role defining a new category alongside seasoned fintech and big-tech founders. Location London, UK Why this role is remarkable * Join as a founding team member with a direct line to strategy and the chance to define a brand-new category in the AI and fintech space. * Work alongside founders with elite pedigrees from Amazon, Google Pay, Stripe, and Plaid who have scaled massive systems and launched successful products. * Solve "alignment risk," one of the most critical hurdles for the future of agent-led commerce, building infrastructure that doesn't exist anywhere else today. What You Will Do * Architect and build a first-of-its-kind risk engine from scratch using a blend of traditional supervised learning and LLM-as-a-judge methodologies. * Develop and embed secure risk harnesses within agentic commerce protocols and payment flows, partnering with ecosystem players to integrate bleeding-edge technology. * Lead the end-to-end product engineering cycle, from backend machine learning models and payment orchestration to crafting high-craftsmanship, "calm tech" user experiences. The ideal candidate * A senior-level engineer who has shipped complex production software end-to-end, ideally with experience taking a product from 0-to-1 in a fast-paced environment. * Deep technical expertise in either machine learning infrastructure or payment systems, with the architectural maturity to make sharp decisions under conditions of high uncertainty. * A high-agency, low-ego builder who values product velocity and craftsmanship, possesses the UK right to work, and enjoys a high-energy, collaborative startup culture.
