Kilburn \& Strode is one of Europe's pre-eminent intellectual property firms. We act for US and European clients at the forefront of their sectors on their most challenging, business-critical IP matters – from EPO and Unified Patent Court proceedings to M\&A due diligence, strategic portfolio management and high-value prosecution.
We are a firm that looks forward, not back. We have a clear five-year strategy, a genuine commitment to B Corp certification, and an ambition to be the market leader in premium IP work by 2030. Our values – be curious, think commercially, act collaboratively, take ownership, make a positive impact – are not a poster on a wall. They shape how we work and who we hire.
Head of Special Projects (with close working relationships across Practice Group Leaders / Patent Attorneys)
As Senior AI Implementation Specialist, you will step into a newly created role responsible for implementing the firm's AI strategy. The firm has established the direction and core IP-specific tools, so you will be turning that vision into operational reality: rolling out and configuring the selected tools, driving adoption among patent attorneys and paralegals and business support departments, and maintaining close working relationships with partners and practice group heads throughout.
You will own implementation of the firm's chosen IP-specific AI tools across the practice. You will consult with the Business Support heads to identify opportunities for AI-powered efficiencies and improvements. You will own and maintain firm-wide standards (security, confidentiality, procurement).
Lead implementation of the firm's selected AI tools — configuration, integration with existing practice management systems, and workflow design ensuring tools fit how attorneys work.
Work directly with attorneys and practice group leaders to manage any transitions, surface friction points, and adjust rollout plans accordingly. Maintain this relationship on an ongoing basis, checking in regularly on emerging needs, gaps in current tools, and areas where AI could add further value, and feeding this back into future tool decisions.
Build training materials and run sessions for attorneys and paralegals; provide ongoing direct support to ensure tools are used, not just switched on.
Work with the Risk \& Compliance Manager and firm leadership to ensure implementation complies with client confidentiality obligations, ethical rules (e.g., competence, supervision, billing transparency), and any client-specific AI restrictions — including the added supervision requirements that come with AI performing chargeable work.
Track adoption and performance metrics (usage rates, time-to-draft, search quality, attorney satisfaction) and report both on ROI and on where the selected tools are or are not meeting expectations.
Keep an eye on where client-support workflows are maturing enough to support a supervised move into performing chargeable work directly.
Serve as the practice-side expert on Claude (Anthropic) — how the firm's chosen tools integrate with Claude and how it is configured for confidentiality requirements.
Share standards and lessons with the Business Services Implementation Specialist so both workstreams stay aligned on risk and procurement approach.
