AI Implementation \& Automation Specialist

AIW Workflows

Location: Great Totham, Essex Employment: Full-time, Permanent

About AIW

AIW Workflows is a growing construction technology business focused on changing the way construction and field-based businesses operate.

Our platform brings teams, tasks, workflows and operational data together, helping businesses reduce administration, improve visibility, automate repetitive processes and make better use of the information they already have.

As AIW continues to develop, we are looking to bring more of our AI implementation, automation and development capability in-house.

We are therefore looking for an AI Implementation \& Automation Specialist who is excited by the practical application of artificial intelligence and can turn business challenges into intelligent, workable solutions.

The Role

This is not simply a software support role.

We are looking for someone who can understand how a business operates, identify where AI and automation can make a genuine difference, develop implementation strategies and help turn those ideas into working solutions.

You will work closely with the wider AIW team to develop, test and implement AI-powered workflows, automations, integrations and platform improvements across a range of real-world business processes.

You will also need to be comfortable working within an existing development environment, including PHP codebases and GitHub, to help integrate new functionality into the AIW platform.

A key part of the role will be looking at existing processes and asking:

Can this be automated? Can it be smarter? Can we remove unnecessary administration? Can AIW connect this information more effectively?

Key Responsibilities

You will be involved in

  • Developing practical AI implementation strategies for AIW and its customers
  • Reviewing existing business processes and identifying opportunities for AI, automation and digital transformation
  • Designing and implementing automated workflows
  • Building and configuring AI-powered tools, agents and processes
  • Connecting AI solutions with existing software, systems, APIs and data sources
  • Working with the development team to integrate new AI functionality into the AIW platform
  • Working confidently with PHP-based systems and existing codebases
  • Using GitHub for version control, code management and collaborative development
  • Building and maintaining API and webhook integrations
  • Testing new technologies, AI models and automation tools
  • Developing prototypes and proof-of-concept solutions
  • Turning manual processes, spreadsheets and disconnected systems into structured digital workflows
  • Supporting customer AI implementation and onboarding
  • Understanding individual customer requirements and developing appropriate solutions
  • Testing, debugging and troubleshooting automated systems and integrations
  • Monitoring implemented solutions and continually improving their performance
  • Documenting workflows, integrations, code changes and implementation processes
  • Helping develop AIW's longer-term AI and automation strategy
  • Keeping up to date with developments across AI, automation, software development and construction technology

Technical Requirements

The successful candidate should be technically confident and comfortable working within a software development environment.

You should have

  • Strong working knowledge of PHP, with the ability to confidently read, write, develop and troubleshoot PHP code
  • Fluency in GitHub, including repositories, branches, commits, pull requests, version control and collaborative development workflows
  • Experience working with APIs and third-party software integrations
  • Experience using and implementing webhooks
  • Understanding of databases, structured data and data flows
  • Ability to understand and work within existing codebases
  • Strong testing, debugging and technical problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work alongside developers and contribute directly to the implementation of new functionality

Experience with Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript would be advantageous.

AI \& Automation Experience

Experience or strong practical knowledge in some of the following would be beneficial:

  • Artificial intelligence and generative AI
  • Large Language Models (LLMs)
  • AI APIs and model integrations
  • AI agents and agentic workflows
  • Workflow automation
  • Prompt engineering and AI solution design
  • No-code/low-code automation platforms
  • SaaS platforms
  • Software integrations
  • Process mapping and optimisation
  • Data management
  • Automated testing and troubleshooting
  • Building prototypes and proof-of-concept AI solutions

We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate that they have actually built or implemented AI and automation solutions, rather than simply having theoretical knowledge of AI.

Experience within construction, field operations, SaaS or workflow management would also be advantageous, but is not essential.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for somebody who is technically capable, commercially minded and naturally curious.

You should enjoy understanding why a process works the way it does before deciding how technology could improve it.

We want somebody who can look at a manual or inefficient business process, understand the problem and then determine how a combination of AI, automation, integrations and software development could provide a better solution.

The right person will be comfortable moving between strategic thinking and hands-on implementation.

The Person

This role would suit someone who

  • Is genuinely interested in AI and emerging technology
  • Enjoys experimenting, testing and solving problems
  • Can take an idea from concept through to implementation
  • Is comfortable working hands-on with code as well as developing wider implementation strategies
  • Thinks strategically as well as technically
  • Can communicate technical ideas clearly to non-technical people
  • Is commercially aware and understands that technology needs to solve genuine business problems
  • Is comfortable working in a growing business where ideas develop quickly
  • Wants the opportunity to influence how AI is used within a developing technology platform
  • Is proactive and comfortable taking ownership of projects
  • Enjoys researching new technologies and finding practical ways of applying them
  • Can work independently while collaborating effectively with developers and the wider business

Why Join AIW?

AIW is being developed around real operational challenges rather than technology for technology's sake.

You'll have the opportunity to work directly on real business processes and see the solutions you develop being used by construction and field-based teams.

This is an opportunity to join AIW at an exciting stage of its growth and have genuine input into how our AI, automation and implementation capability develops.

Rather than working on one small part of a large technology organisation, you'll have the opportunity to:

Research. Experiment. Build. Implement. Improve.

You'll be able to explore new AI technologies, identify where they can make a genuine difference and then help turn those ideas into practical solutions within the AIW platform.

If you're passionate about practical AI, confident working with PHP and GitHub, and want to help businesses work smarter through automation and intelligent technology, we'd love to hear from you.
