Others are about helping define how an entirely new generation of technology is used safely, securely, and at scale. This is one of those. A rapidly growing technology company is investing heavily in a new AI-focused engineering hub in London. While the details are deliberately being kept under wraps for now, the mission is clear. They are tackling some of the most interesting challenges emerging from the adoption of AI, helping organisations embrace these technologies without compromising on security, governance, or trust. They're looking for backend engineers who enjoy solving complex problems and building systems that operate at scale. The kind of engineer who likes understanding how things work under the hood, who gets satisfaction from designing reliable services, and who enjoys seeing their work have a tangible impact on both products and customers. The work sits at the intersection of AI, security, and large-scale distributed systems. One day you might be designing services that analyse and process vast amounts of data. The next, you could be building infrastructure that helps secure AI-powered applications, creating APIs that underpin new product capabilities, or collaborating with security researchers and machine learning specialists to bring new ideas into production. There is a strong sense of ownership throughout the engineering team. Engineers are trusted to contribute to technical direction, challenge existing approaches, and take ideas from early design through to production. You won't simply be handed tickets and asked to code. You'll be encouraged to think critically about problems and help shape the solutions. From a technical perspective, strong backend development experience is the most important thing. Java is widely used across the platform, although a solid understanding of distributed systems, scalability, performance, and software design principles matters far more than any single framework. Experience working with high-volume data systems, cloud-native environments, or security-focused products would be particularly valuable, but curiosity and the ability to learn quickly are just as important. What makes this opportunity especially interesting is the timing. AI is creating entirely new security challenges, and this team is being built to tackle them head-on. The company already has significant global momentum, but this group is still early enough that every new engineer will have the opportunity to influence both the technology and the direction of the platform. If you enjoy meaningful engineering, working alongside thoughtful people, and tackling the kind of technical problems that don't have obvious answers, this could be a fascinating conversation to have.
