Artificial Intelligence Engineer

Staff AI Engineer | Agentic Coding | London I’m working with a fast-growing fintech startup looking for a Staff AI Engineer to take ownership of an increasingly important challenge in software engineering: how AI coding agents should be used across the engineering lifecycle. As engineering teams generate more production code through AI, this role will help define what “good” looks like for agentic coding , from selecting the right models and agents to embedding them effectively into developer workflows. You’ll join as one of the most senior AI ICs in the team , with significant technical ownership and a greenfield opportunity to shape their approach. What you’ll be doing: * Evaluating and shaping the adoption of AI coding agents and models * Building and experimenting hands-on with AI developer tooling * Defining how agentic tooling fits across the software development lifecycle * Establishing best practices that improve developer productivity * Working closely with senior engineers and influencing technical direction What we’re looking for: * Staff/Principal-level technical credibility while remaining very hands-on * Strong software engineering foundations * Experience with agentic coding, AI developer tooling or AI-assisted development * Developer Experience, Developer Productivity or developer tooling experience would be highly relevant * Ability to influence experienced engineers and help define technical standards * Financial services experience is not required Location: Central London, 4 days per week onsite. There isn’t necessarily one conventional background for this role. You could come from an AI developer tooling company, a DevEx/Developer Productivity team, or an engineering organisation where you’ve helped build, evaluate or roll out AI coding tooling internally.
