Senior/Staff AI Software Engineer We're recruiting on behalf of a well-established, globally recognised technology business operating in the commerce and payments space. Trusted by some of the world's largest retailers and e-commerce platforms, they've built a reputation over more than a decade for solving genuinely hard problems at scale; their network spans billions of data points and their technology sits at the heart of how major brands manage trust and identity across the customer journey. AI is central to how they operate and increasingly central to what they build. This isn't a business just beginning to experiment with AI; it's one that has moved firmly into the productisation phase, building AI-powered capabilities that touch every part of the organisation. What the role involves You'll join a dedicated AI Engineering team that acts as the focal point for AI across the business; designing, building and maintaining the platforms, tools and APIs that power both internal workflows and customer-facing products. Day to day that means building reusable AI infrastructure, developing evaluation frameworks and guardrails to ensure model reliability, working with RAG systems, MCP servers and agentic patterns, and helping other engineering teams leverage what you build. You'll take full ownership of projects from requirements through to deployment and operation, and act as an internal advocate for strong AI engineering practice across the business. What we're looking for * 5+ years of backend engineering experience, building complex and highly scalable systems * Solid understanding of GenAI, LLMs and foundation models * Hands-on experience with agentic frameworks, RAG systems, evals and MCP * Familiarity with AI coding tools such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot or similar * Experience working with public cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP or Azure) * Strong sense of ownership; comfortable developing, deploying and running projects end to end Hybrid, London.
