AI Analyst – Power Operations Location: London, UK Team: AI Enablement – Power Operations / Commercial Operations Focus: Power operations, scheduling, nominations, TSO/interconnector workflows, AI-enabled automation Role Overview Hartree Partners is seeking an AI Analyst to work directly with our Power Operations and Commercial teams to automate, streamline, and improve critical operational workflows across UK and European power markets. This role is focused on power operations automation. The successful candidate should have strong working knowledge of power scheduling, nominations, renominations, TSO interactions, interconnector processes, market deadlines, balancing, and operational exception handling. You will work closely with traders, operators, schedulers, asset managers, risk, and technology teams to translate operational processes into structured AI-enabled workflows. The goal is to reduce manual work, improve accuracy, accelerate decision-making, and create auditable workflows across power scheduling and delivery. This is a hands-on, desk-adjacent role for someone who understands how power operations actually work and is eager to apply AI, data, and automation to real-world operational problems. What You’ll Do Power Operations Workflow Automation *Design and deliver AI-enabled workflows to support and automate:* * Day-ahead and intraday scheduling * Nominations and renominations * TSO submissions, confirmations, and deadline tracking * Interconnector nomination and capacity workflows * Cross-border scheduling processes * Balancing and imbalance monitoring * Metered vs scheduled reconciliation * Operational exception management * Market notices, outage notices, and operational alerts * Handoffs between trading, operations, and settlement teams * Daily operational recaps and status reporting TSO, Interconnector \& Market Process Support *Work with business stakeholders to document, improve, and automate workflows involving:* * UK and European TSOs * Interconnector operators and capacity platforms * Day-ahead and intraday markets * Cross-border nominations and schedule changes * Physical delivery confirmation and operational controls * Balancing and settlement handoffs * Deadline-driven market processes AI Workflow \& Agent Design *Build AI-enabled tools and workflows that can:* * Parse operational emails, confirmations, notices, and reports * Identify missing, late, or inconsistent nominations * Track deadlines and alert users before operational cutoffs * Reconcile scheduled, nominated, metered, and settled volumes * Monitor interconnector capacity, flows, and status updates * Summarize market and operational notices * Generate structured exception queues for human review * Support SOP / runbook retrieval and operational knowledge management * Produce daily operational summaries for traders and operations teams Data, Controls \& Validation *Ensure AI-enabled workflows are:* * Accurate * Auditable * Permission-aware * Explainable * Operationally safe * Aligned to market rules and internal controls Stakeholder Engagement *Work directly with:* * Power traders * Power operators * Schedulers / nominations teams * Risk and settlements teams * Technology, data, and AI teams * Compliance and finance where relevant Required Qualifications *Experience in one or more of the following:* * Power operations * Power scheduling / nominations * Energy trading operations * Utility operations * Asset operations * Energy market operations * Strong working knowledge of UK and/or European power market operations. * Experience with scheduling, nominations, renominations, dispatch, or operational confirmation workflows. * Familiarity with TSO interactions, market deadlines, and operational compliance requirements. * Understanding of interconnectors, cross-border power flows, capacity, and nomination processes. * Strong analytical skills and comfort working with operational data. * Ability to work directly with traders, operators, and technical teams. * Strong communication skills and willingness to get into the details of real operational workflows. Desired Requirements * Experience with UK power, European power, or cross-border power operations. * Experience with workflow automation, Python, SQL, Power BI, Excel/VBA, or low-code automation tools. * Exposure to AI/LLMs, prompt engineering, or agentic workflows. * Experience working in a trading, utility, aggregator, supplier, TSO-facing, or asset-optimization environment. What Success Looks Like * Scheduling and nomination workflows become faster, more structured, and less dependent on manual email / Excel processes. * Operational teams have clear visibility into deadlines, exceptions, nominations, renominations, and reconciliations. * Interconnector and TSO workflows are documented, automated where appropriate, and monitored through reliable alerting. * AI agents are used daily to support operational decision-making, exception handling, and reporting. * Human review is focused on genuine edge cases rather than repetitive process execution. * Traders and operators trust the workflows because outputs are validated, traceable, and operationally useful.
