An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced
Data Science Team Lead**
to lead a high-performing team focused on developing predictive models that optimise large-scale logistics and operational performance. This strategic leadership role combines people management, technical oversight, and business partnership to drive data science initiatives that improve customer experience and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Data Scientists, fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture.
* Define and execute the data science strategy aligned with business priorities and product roadmaps.
* Translate complex business challenges into scalable machine learning and predictive modelling solutions.
* Drive ownership of key operational and commercial performance metrics.
* Partner with Product, Engineering, Machine Learning Engineering, and business stakeholders to deliver impactful data-driven solutions.
* Oversee the development, deployment, and continuous improvement of production machine learning models.
* Guide the design of real-time predictive systems while balancing performance, scalability, and reliability.
* Lead root cause analysis of model performance and recommend improvements based on data-driven insights.
* Direct experimentation strategies, including A/B testing and causal inference, to measure business impact.
* Ensure models are technically robust, explainable, auditable, and aligned with responsible AI principles.
* Develop predictive models that optimise operational performance, resource allocation, pricing, and customer outcomes.
* Support the use of geospatial, behavioural, and operational data to improve forecasting and decision-making.
* Promote best practices across the full machine learning lifecycle, including testing, monitoring, code quality, and model governance.
Requirements
* Extensive experience leading and managing Data Science teams within a commercial environment.
* Proven experience developing, deploying, and maintaining machine learning models in production.
* Strong knowledge of predictive modelling, statistical analysis, machine learning, and AI techniques.
* Experience working with logistics, forecasting, geospatial data, routing, optimisation, or related predictive modelling problems is highly desirable.
* Strong understanding of model deployment, monitoring, testing, and production best practices.
* Experience designing and analysing experiments using causal inference and statistical methodologies.
* Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose complex production issues.
* Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into business recommendations.
* Demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
* Passion for mentoring, coaching, and developing technical talent.
