About The Role We are seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist III to join our team at LexisNexis Intellectual Property Solutions (LNIP). In this role, you will play a pivotal part in the development and validation of AI-driven features within our flagship product, Protégé in PatentSight. Your primary responsibility will be to leverage advanced machine learning, natural language processing (NLP), and large language models (LLMs) to enhance our patent analysis workflows. This involves designing innovative algorithms, experimenting with new approaches, and translating complex data insights into scalable, user-friendly solutions that address real-world intellectual property challenges. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including engineers, product managers, and subject matter experts, to ensure that our AI capabilities align with user needs and business objectives. Qualifications * Degree in a quantitative or technical discipline such as Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Data Science. * Proven experience in machine learning, NLP, and LLM-based modeling techniques. * Strong track record of designing and executing experiments, including model evaluation and iterative improvement. * Proficiency in Python programming and related data analysis libraries. * Hands-on experience with generative AI techniques, including prompt engineering and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG). * Experience in developing hybrid search strategies combining semantic and lexical approaches using embeddings and vector databases. * Familiarity with agent frameworks such as Google ADK, LangChain, LangGraph, or AutoGen, and applying them to real-world use cases. * Excellent analytical skills with a solid foundation in statistics, modeling, and large-scale text processing. * Ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively to non-technical stakeholders. Responsibilities * Develop and implement NLP, LLM, and generative AI approaches to enhance patent analysis workflows and decision-making processes. * Design agentic workflows and reasoning strategies for complex multi-step intellectual property tasks, ensuring they are efficient and scalable. * Create and optimize retrieval strategies, including hybrid search methods, and establish evaluation metrics to measure relevance and ranking quality. * Analyze large-scale patent datasets to extract actionable insights and continuously improve model performance through experimentation. * Establish best practices for model validation, benchmarking, and performance evaluation to maintain high standards of quality and reliability. * Translate experimental results into clear, impactful product recommendations that drive business value and user satisfaction. * Work collaboratively with product teams, IP experts, and engineers to ensure AI solutions meet user needs and integrate seamlessly into existing workflows.
