Research Engineer – Fundamental AI Research

Location: London

Working Model: Hybrid – 3 days onsite

Contract: 12 months | 40 hours/week

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Research Engineer to join a cutting-edge AI research team working on next-generation machine intelligence.

This role sits at the intersection of AI research and software engineering , with opportunities to work on LLMs, reinforcement learning, AI agents, synthetic data and large-scale AI systems .

You’ll work closely with experienced researchers and engineers, contributing directly to active research projects while building production-quality tools and infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct hands-on AI/ML research and experimentation.
• Develop and evaluate

LLMs and large-scale ML models

.

• Build

reinforcement learning environments, AI-agent systems and experimentation frameworks .

• Work with

synthetic data, large datasets and complex AI systems

.

• Build robust pipelines, sandboxes and infrastructure for AI research.
• Analyse experiments, investigate why approaches succeed or fail, and translate findings into recommendations.
• Read and apply the latest

AI/ML research papers

.

• Write high-quality Python code and collaborate closely with research and engineering teams.

What We're Looking For

• Strong

Python

and software engineering skills.

• Hands-on experience with

machine learning models at scale

.

• Experience with

PyTorch

and large datasets/models.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to understand and apply research findings beyond benchmark results.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, AI/ML, Computer Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Nice to Have

• Experience with

Generative AI / LLMs and LLM evaluation or post-training

.

• Reinforcement learning and AI-agent/multi-agent systems.
• Synthetic data generation.
• AI research infrastructure or experimentation frameworks.
• Research experience or a Master’s/PhD in AI/ML.
