Who we are
The Apprenticeship College delivers practical, employer-focused apprenticeship training that helps people develop skills, apply them in the workplace and progress successfully through to End-Point Assessment. Guided by our strapline, “Better People, Better Business”, we design programmes that deliver measurable results for employers by supporting workforce retention, talent development and return on investment through meaningful work-based learning and projects. We believe the quality of the product is key, so nothing is left to chance: every learning journey is meticulously planned and delivered from day one, providing learners and employers with clarity, structure and transparency throughout the programme. Our inclusive approach is founded on the principle that if we get it right for the most disadvantaged, we get it right for everyone. We remove barriers and create opportunities for people from all backgrounds, supported by our specialist learning support team. Our pathways provide clear development routes aligned with the aspirations of both individuals and organisations, covering Sales and Marketing, Data Insights and Digital Capability, Transport and Logistics, Customer and People, and Improvement.
Our impact
Ofsted rated us Good overall, with outstanding features, in June 2025. Our EPA outcomes include a 96% first-time pass rate, with 79% of successful apprentices achieving a distinction. Our qualification achievement rate is 68.6% - 8.1 percentage points above the national rate - and is expected to rise to 74% when the 2025/26 data is collated.
Learner feedback is equally strong: 97% confirmed they developed new skills with us and 99% said they achieved the objectives established at the beginning of their programme.
Can you turn complex technical processes into learning that feels clear, relevant and achievable?
We are looking for someone who can inspire apprentices, build their confidence and help them translate data, AI and automation knowledge into measurable workplace impact. What matters most is your ability to connect with people, communicate clearly and make technical subjects accessible to learners at every level.
We welcome applications from experienced trainers with data or AI capability and from technical specialists ready to develop as trainers, coaches and mentors. You do not need to arrive with every teaching or assessment qualification: if you have the right expertise, communication skills and potential, we will train and support you.
The opportunity
As a Data and AI Specialist, you will take ownership of apprentices from induction through to successful End-Point Assessment. You will combine high-quality teaching with individual coaching, mentoring and progress management, helping learners apply data and AI capability within their own organisations.
Your delivery portfolio will include:
· Data Technician apprenticeships
· Data Analyst apprenticeships
· AI and Automation Level 4 apprenticeships
· Stand-alone AI units and technical learning programmes
The technical knowledge you will teach
You will not need to use one prescribed software stack, but you must be confident teaching and demonstrating the following areas using appropriate organisational tools:
· Data analysis and requirements. The data analysis lifecycle, customer requirements, data sources, classification, quality and the challenges of combining structured and unstructured data.
· Data tools and visualisation. Spreadsheet, querying, database, visualisation and programming tools - for example Excel, SQL, Power BI and Python, or equivalent - to prepare, analyse and present data through reports, dashboards, graphs and infographics.
· Statistics and analytical methods. Descriptive, predictive and prescriptive analytics, statistical methodologies, data mining, time-series forecasting, modelling and the interpretation of qualitative and quantitative data.
· AI and automation solutions. AI concepts, models, benefits and limitations; prompt creation and iterative refinement; conversational and text-processing AI; and workflow automation using cloud, low-code or no-code platforms.
· Integration, testing and improvement. Designing and testing digital workflows, prototypes and proofs of concept using APIs and connectors; integrating data; assessing feasibility; and iterating solutions using test results and user feedback.
· Responsible and human-centred practice. Data protection, Privacy by Design, security, accessibility, ethical AI, bias, governance, assurance, risk assessment, workforce impact and the responsible adoption of AI and automation.
What you will bring to the learner experience
· Engaging delivery. Plan and deliver interactive workshops, webinars, coaching sessions and digital learning resources that hold attention and encourage participation.
· Clear communication. Break down technical processes, concepts and terminology into explanations that learners with different starting points can understand and apply.
· Purposeful coaching. Use effective questioning, feedback and challenge to help apprentices think independently, solve problems and build confidence.
· Workplace relevance. Connect learning to genuine organisational challenges, helping apprentices demonstrate the knowledge, skills and behaviours required by their standard.
· Inclusive practice. Adapt delivery and support to meet individual needs, recognising different levels of experience, confidence and learning support requirements.
What you will be responsible for
· Manage a caseload of apprentices and provide consistent, high-quality support throughout their programme.
· Deliver scheduled group workshops and one-to-one coaching sessions remotely, with travel to employer sites, workshops and team meetings where required.
· Create session plans, curriculum resources, assessment activities and EPA preparation materials aligned to apprenticeship requirements.
· Use questioning, discussion, practical activity, observation and formative assessment to check that learning has taken place.
· Provide timely, constructive feedback and support learners to select high-quality evidence for their portfolios.
· Maintain accurate training plans, progress records, evidence and off-the-job training information within the e-portfolio.
· Monitor attendance and progress, identify learners at risk and agree clear recovery actions with learners, employers and internal colleagues.
· Complete progress reviews with apprentices and their line managers, communicating achievement, priorities and support clearly.
· Work with the Programme and EPA Manager to ensure learners are confident, prepared and ready for Gateway and End-Point Assessment.
· Take part in team meetings, standardisation, moderation and continuous improvement activity.
What we are looking for
Essential
· Current and credible occupational competence in data, data analysis, artificial intelligence, automation or a closely related digital field.
· The confidence and presence to engage an audience and establish positive relationships with learners and employers.
· A strong ability to explain technical processes in plain language and adapt communication for different levels of knowledge and experience.
· Evidence of coaching, mentoring, presenting, facilitating, onboarding, supporting colleagues or sharing technical knowledge in the workplace.
· Strong organisation and time management, with the ability to balance live delivery, individual support, caseload administration and deadlines.
· A learner-centred approach, sound professional judgement and the confidence to hold constructive or challenging conversations when needed.
· A commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity, inclusion, British Values and the Prevent Duty.
· A willingness to maintain current technical knowledge and undertake ongoing professional development.
Desirable - but not essential
· A recognised teaching, training, coaching or assessing qualification.
· Experience in apprenticeship delivery, assessment, e-portfolios or End-Point Assessment preparation.
· Experience of designing technical learning content or facilitating groups in person or online.
New to teaching or assessing?
We recognise that excellent trainers often begin as excellent practitioners. If you have the occupational competence, communication skills and potential to succeed, we will provide training towards the relevant teaching and assessing qualifications. You will need to be ready to learn quickly, respond positively to feedback and confidently support a live caseload as your practice develops.
What we offer
· Time off. 28 days' holiday, three additional days over the festive period and eight bank holidays each year.
· Time to connect. Two dedicated team event days each year.
· A genuine home-working opportunity. Most employers choose remote delivery, allowing the majority of training and coaching to be delivered from home and reducing travel time and costs. Occasional face-to-face delivery and collaboration at our office will be required.
· Funded development. We encourage continuous professional development and support colleagues through relevant funded CPD opportunities and qualifications.
Professional responsibilities
· Champion safeguarding and follow organisational procedures when concerns arise.
· Promote respectful, inclusive learning and confidently challenge inappropriate behaviour or intolerance.
· Maintain accurate, audit-ready records and meet apprenticeship funding and quality requirements.
· Act on feedback from quality assurance and contribute to the continuous improvement of curriculum and delivery.
· Maintain professional boundaries and represent the organisation positively with learners, employers and colleagues.
· Undertake other reasonable duties that support learners, clients and the effective delivery of digital programmes.
Safer recruitment
The successful candidate will be required to complete an appropriate Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and any other safer recruitment checks required for the duties of the role.
