Software Engineer

About the Role We are looking for an Software Engineer to join a technically diverse engineering environment, working across software, real-time data, edge computing and AI. This is a genuinely generalist software engineering role, suited to someone who enjoys working across different areas of technology rather than being restricted to a single development stack. You will be responsible for designing, implementing and supporting end-to-end ATF systems, working across Beckhoff IPC and TwinCAT modules, the MING stack, PyTorch and user interfaces. You will also have the opportunity to work closely with customers and commercial teams, supporting technical demonstrations, presentations and sales activities. Key Responsibilities * Design, develop and support end-to-end ATF software systems. * Develop and integrate Beckhoff IPC and TwinCAT modules. * Work across real-time data acquisition, processing and visualisation. * Develop software and applications using Python and JavaScript. * Support the implementation and deployment of AI/ML models, including work with PyTorch. * Develop and maintain user interfaces and supporting applications. * Build and deploy software to edge environments using Docker and Linux. * Work with networking technologies including IP routing, industrial gateways, Wi-Fi HaLow and MQTT. * Work with time-series data, edge buffering and high-throughput data pipelines. * Develop scalable, maintainable and reliable software solutions. * Use modern software development practices including Git and version control. * Support technical demonstrations and presentations for customers and prospects. * Work independently to progress projects from initial requirements through to implementation and support. Essential Skills \& Experience We are looking for a strong generalist software engineer who is comfortable moving between different technologies and problem areas. You should have: * Strong software development and implementation experience across multiple platforms and technologies. * Commercial experience with Python and JavaScript. * Experience using Git and standard software development workflows. * Experience working with Linux and Docker, particularly in edge or deployed environments. * An understanding of network management and IP routing. * An understanding of edge networking technologies such as MQTT, industrial gateways and Wi-Fi HaLow. * The ability to understand complex technical problems and develop structured, scalable solutions. * A basic understanding of data science, machine learning and AI. * Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently. * Good communication skills, with the confidence to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. Desirable Experience The following would be advantageous but are not essential: * Experience with PyTorch or other machine learning frameworks. * Experience with time-series data and high-throughput data pipelines. * Experience with edge buffering and real-time data acquisition. * Experience with Beckhoff IPC / TwinCAT. * Experience with the MING stack. * Experience developing industrial or engineering software. * A background in mechanical engineering, industrial processes or machinery. * Experience supporting customer demonstrations, technical presentations or pre-sales activities. Rather than requiring expertise in every technology listed, we're particularly interested in candidates with a strong software engineering foundation who can demonstrate the ability to learn quickly, work across disciplines and build practical solutions. Strong communication and collaboration skills are equally important, as the role will involve working with both engineering teams and customers.
